Step 1: Create the Bag Body
We’ll start by crocheting a simple, sturdy base that will be the body of your bag.
Foundation Chain: Chain 60.
Row 1: In the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 sc. Continue with 1 sc in each chain across (59 sc total). Chain 2, turn.
Row 2: Work 1 hdc in each stitch across (59 hdc). Chain 2, turn.
Row 3: Work 1 dc in each stitch across (59 dc). Chain 2, turn.
Row 4-22: Repeat Row 2 (hdc) until your piece measures approximately 12 inches tall. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Step 2: Form the Bag Shape
Now we’ll fold the body to create the shape of the bag.
Fold the piece in half, with the right sides together. Using a slip stitch, seam up the two sides of the bag, leaving the top open. Fasten off and weave in ends.
To give your bag a little more structure, you can add a simple base. Join yarn to the bottom corner, and work 1 round of sc around the bottom, increasing as needed to fit the base snugly.
Step 3: Add the Fringe
This is where the boho magic happens! The fringe adds that fun, playful touch.
Cut lengths of yarn about 12 inches long. You’ll need around 50-60 strands, depending on how full you want the fringe.
Using your tapestry needle, fold each strand of yarn in half and attach it to the bottom edge of the bag. Space them evenly, and make sure to tie a knot to secure each fringe strand.
Once all your fringe is attached, trim them to the desired length. Feel free to add layers of fringe for a fuller look or mix different yarn colors for a unique touch.
Step 4: Add a Strap (Optional)
You can keep it simple with a basic strap or get creative with different designs.
Chain 120, then work 1 sc in each chain back across. Attach the strap to each side of the bag with a slip stitch.
For a boho twist, braid three strands of yarn together, then attach to the sides of the bag.
Button Closure (Optional): Sew a decorative button to one side of the bag. Create a simple loop with yarn on the opposite side to fasten the bag closed.
Step 5: Final Touches
Lightly block your bag to even out any uneven edges and give it a crisp finish.
Add beads or charms to the fringe for an extra boho touch, or embellish with embroidery.
