Step 1: Crochet the Scarf Base
Let’s start with the main body of the scarf. This part is super simple, so you can totally binge-watch your favorite show while working on it.
Start by chaining 225. This will give you a nice, long scarf that you can wrap around comfortably.
In the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 hdc. Continue to hdc in each chain across. You should end up with 224 hdc. Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Work 1 hdc in each stitch across. Chain 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until your scarf measures about 10 inches wide (or desired width). This should take around 16-20 rows, depending on your tension.
Step 2: Create the Hood
Now, we’ll add the hood, which is worked directly onto the middle section of your scarf.
Fold your scarf in half to find the center. Place a stitch marker there. You’ll be working on one half of the scarf for the hood.
Attach your yarn at the center point, and chain 2 (counts as first dc).
Row 1 (Hood): Dc in the next 74 stitches (total of 75 dc). Chain 2, turn.
Row 2-20: Continue to dc in each stitch across, chaining 2 and turning at the end of each row.
Fold the hood section in half, with the right sides together. Slip stitch the top of the hood closed.
Step 3: Crochet the Pockets
Time to add those cozy pockets! You’ll make two rectangles and then attach them to the ends of the scarf.
Pocket Base: Chain 30.
Row 1: In the 2nd chain from the hook, sc across (29 sc total). Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each stitch across. Chain 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until the pocket measures 7 inches tall (about 30 rows). Fasten off and weave in ends.
Make a second pocket using the same steps.
Step 4: Attach the Pockets
Place each pocket at the end of the scarf, about 1 inch from the bottom edge.
Use stitch markers or pins to hold the pockets in place. Make sure they’re aligned nicely.
Using your tapestry needle and a length of yarn, sew around the sides and bottom of the pockets, leaving the top open.
Step 5: Add Finishing Touches
Edging (Optional): If you want a more polished look, add a simple sc or sl st edging around the entire scarf.
Lightly block your scarf to even out the stitches and give it a professional finish.
